I can't say enough good things about my experience with Tanya at Force of Nature Fitness.

 

Significantly overweight my whole adult life, I was overwhelmed and scared to begin any kind of fitness regime. I felt so far gone and pretty hopeless. I kept putting it off because I was so intimidated, and finding excuses - I don't have the time, I don't have the money. Until I made it a priority, for real.

 

When I met Tanya, something just clicked. She is so funny and so kind, with an unusual grasp of the human condition - emotional and mental as well as physical. I needed someone who not only understood the way my muscles and tendons and metabolism worked, but could recognize the way my brain worked, too. She's very shrewd and has a keen bulls*** detector, so knew when I was selling myself short, or settling for less than I was capable of. She seemed to know when to push and when to be gentle, and when to bark "STOP STALLING! TEN MORE!" with a maniacal grin.

 

She has the combination of knowledge, skill and confidence to make a person excited about exercise. She put careful thought into my program, respecting limits while always knowing when to gently push past them. She changed my program frequently enough to keep me engaged and challenged, but let me improve upon and master exercises to see my progress. I can do pushups, I can do the plank, I can lift heavy weights, I can do mountain-climbers. I even like some of them. She also has a vast wealth of nutritional knowledge.

 

I remember during one of my first sessions with her, looking at the 40 lb dumbbells with big, round eyes - "who uses THOSE?" - I was benching with 12 lb dumbbells at the time.

 

By the time I parted ways with Tanya (only because she was moving her business out of town, and if she ever comes back, I'm in), I benched with the 40 lbs dumbbells. I have a picture of me grinning my face off while doing it.

 

Tanya changed my life. I'm forever grateful. And stronger for it.

Training with Tanya has changed my life along with my outlook on health, food and exercise. Food is no longer the enemy, and exercise is my new addiction. Before training with Tanya I had tried everything from crazy yo-yo diets to diet pills. I had eating disorders throughout my life from anorexia to compulsive over-eating. Due to family and work commitments I had given up my regular workout routine over 4 years. I recently decided to “get back at it” and started working out with Tanya 2 months ago. I have been working out faithfully for about 4 years. I have used intense exercise videos, specialty exercise and nutrition plans, attended various types of classes and every year I go on a strenuous physical vacation, so exercise is not new to me. Although having all of this experience I still wasn’t able to get to the next level.

 

Recently I began working out with Tanya. Not only do I love working out with her, but she has been able to get me to the next level. She has the gift of getting you to give your best and still keep on smiling. My workouts with her are the most intense workouts I have ever done, yet I still enjoy them. As an active women's roller derby player, I came to Tanya for help in strengthening the muscles I needed most in derby, as well as for help building up my cardio and taking my fitness to the next level. I wanted to be strong for derby and minimize my injury potential. I needed help revamping a tired old weights routine, and Tanya breathed new life into my workouts while motivating me to work harder. Over only a couple of months I lost inches everywhere and gained lean muscle, and my one-on-one training sessions with Tanya left me completely spent and sore, yet energized at the same time! Her warmth and humour also helped me over the humps on those days when I had to drag myself to a workout. She is confident and encouraging, and she designed a few different workout plans tailor-made for my personal fitness goals, as well as guiding me on how to properly fuel my body with good nutrition and supplementing.

If I hadn't moved across the country, I would still be seeing Tanya for a regular ass-kicking! I looked forward to our sessions, and even as a longtime weightlifter I learned many new moves while at the same time increasing my core strength and cardio. When I thought I couldn't bang out one more rep, Tanya got a couple more out of me! When I thought I couldn't up my weights, Tanya showed me that I could. Even working with some old injuries, Tanya's ingenuity ensured that there was always a backup exercise or two I could use if something wasn't feeling right.

My experience with Tanya has been a positive one. I have had a gym membership for 9 years and had become unmotivated and unchallenged. I think it was during one of my first workouts with Tanya that she pushed me to my limits and challenged me...something I hadn't felt in years. She is knowledgeable on anatomy and the mechanics of the body. She can work on specific areas for strength or give an all-over-body workout. She assesses each client to determine their individual needs and goals. She is very supportive and looks at the big picture, taking a holistic approach ie body type, diet, lifestyle, goals and motivations. I first met Tanya as she was the Personal Trainer for the Eves of Destruction Roller Derby Team; Training a diverse group of women with varying levels of fitness abilities is a tremendous challenge. Tanya was able to tailor a group program that worked to train and condition the team.
